A split muff coupling is a type of mechanical coupling that is used to connect two shafts together, allowing them to transfer rotational power from one to the other.
It consists of two hollow cylindrical parts or “muffs” that are split into two halves along their length. The two halves of the coupling are clamped around the two respective shafts and held together with bolts or screws.

Split muff couplings are commonly used in applications where the two shafts may need to be separated or replaced frequently without disturbing the connected parts of the machine. They are suitable for heavy and high-torque machinery applications such as pumps, compressors, turbines, and other related equipment.

Stainless Steel Rigid Single Split Shaft Coupling is a type of mechanical coupling that connects two shafts together for transmitting torque or power. As its name suggests, it is made of stainless steel that offers higher durability and corrosion resistance.

The design of a single split shaft coupling includes a split in the hub that allows it to fit tightly onto the shafts. The coupling is secured with screws or bolts that go through the split and clamp it down onto the shaft.

  • The split muff coupling is also called compression coupling or clamp coupling. It is a rigid type of coupling.
  • In this coupling, the sleeve is made of two halves.
  • The halves of the muff are made of cast iron. One-half of the muff is fixed from below and the other half is placed from above.
  • The two halves of the sleeve are clamped together by means of mild steel studs or bolts and nuts.
  • The number of bolts can be four or eight. They are always in multiples of four.
  • The bolts are placed in recesses formed in the sleeve halves.
  • The advantage of this coupling is that the position of the shafts need not be changed for assembling or disassembling of the coupling.
  • This coupling may be used for heavy duty and moderate speeds.
